NDC PRESS RELEASE:
Lofts at Brightwood Groundbreaking
July 23, 2005

WASHINGTON, DC - Members of the Brightwood Community joined The Neighborhood Development Company and DC Council Member Adrian Fenty this morning on site at what is slated to become The Lofts at Brightwood condominiums at the intersection of Georgia and Missouri Avenue, NW.

The Lofts at Brightwood building, which was originally built as a Masonic Lodge in the early 20th Century, has also been host to The Ibex Nightclub and a Carolina Furniture outlet. The Neighborhood Development Company will be combining the existing building with new construction that will result in thirty-two one and two bedroom condominiums and duplexes, as well as the ground-level Meridian Restaurant.

“The development of the Old Ibex Nightclub building is going to be a significant event in the ongoing revitalization of Georgia Avenue, and The Brightwood neighborhood in particular” said Neighborhood Development Company President Adrian G. Washington. “NDC has made a commitment to the redevelopment of the Georgia Avenue corridor and the majority of our developments have been in and around the neighborhoods of Columbia Heights, Petworth and Brightwood. We take special pride is this particular development because of what it is going to mean to the Brightwood community.”

“I’ve been waiting five years for this moment”, said DC Council Member Adrian Fenty. “I know the citizens of the Brightwood neighborhood have been waiting for decades. Georgia Avenue is one of our Main Streets in Washington DC., while Military/Missouri Road is the main East-West artery in northwest DC. This project accomplishes the objective of revitalizing an important landmark at this prominent intersection, turning what was formerly a notorious nightclub into a source of pride for the neighborhood, while bringing new residents and a sit down family restaurant to Brightwood. We are thrilled to be here today to mark the groundbreaking of The Lofts at Brightwood.”

Construction is scheduled to begin immediately with an anticipated completion date of May, 2006. Sales and Marketing are being handled by City Living Realty (www.City-Living-Realty.com) and are expected to get underway in mid October. More information can be found on this project at www.LoftsAtBrightwood.com.
